Founded in May 2009, LCLD is an organization of dynamic leaders — corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners — united by a commitment to creating a truly diverse legal profession. More information about LCLD, including answers to Frequently Asked Questions, can be found in the attachments at the bottom of this page.
As you might expect, our Members are action and results-oriented individuals. Accordingly, LCLD has created a unique set of programs and initiatives that were designed by lawyers, for lawyers, to work in the real world.
These include innovative mentoring and professional development programs that operate at practically every stage of a legal career, starting at the university level and carrying through to the corner office.
Specifically, our Success in Law School Mentoring Program, elite 1L LCLD Scholars Program, and landmark LCLD Fellows Program are all designed to propel talented diverse lawyers, women and minorities, on a path to excellence and leadership in our organizations.
Our Members are both beneficiaries and active participants in these programs, meaning that several hundred General Counsel and Managing Partners are committed and personally engaged in the process. This is an approach that has, in four short years, produced thousands of Mentors and Mentees, hundreds of 1L Scholars, and more than 500 Fellows on their way to the very top of the profession.
This is the critical difference between LCLD and other organizations—and one reason why we have succeeded far beyond what any of us originally imagined.
As the literature below suggests, LCLD is a serious commitment, but a rewarding one as well.
