Jennifer R. Racine is a practical business-minded attorney and strategic legal leader with exceptional ability to drive results in an innovative, fast-paced and highly regulated business. Jennifer has specialized expertise in complex commercial transactions, strategic partnerships, payment processing, M&A due diligence and integration, and intellectual property. In her current role as Senior Director – Legal Counsel, she leads a team of attorneys based in San Jose, San Francisco and Toronto supporting the company's global strategic partnerships and the Americas business unit, and plays an integral role in execution of company strategy, including negotiation of transformational partnerships with the card networks.
Jennifer joined PayPal in January 2012 as Commercial Counsel, primarily supporting PayPal’s Business Development, Corporate Development and Strategy teams, where she advised the business on contract and other legal matters associated with global strategic partnerships, new business models, and commercial aspects of mergers and acquisitions.
In addition to her role at PayPal, Jennifer is also President of the Board of Directors for Nebraska Hands & Voices, the local chapter of an international non-profit organization that supports families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Prior to PayPal, Jennifer was a technology transactions and intellectual property attorney with Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. in Madison, Wisconsin, where she developed an appreciation for locally brewed beer and artisan cheeses. Her law practice included negotiation of a wide variety of technology-based commercial contracts, inbound and outbound licensing for an infamous satirical news outlet, and a stint as the resident expert on legal issues associated with doing business online. Jennifer also managed a patent and trademark prosecution docket, served as adjunct professor of copyright law at the University of Wisconsin Law School, and advised clients on intellectual property matters.
Before law school, Jennifer worked as an engineer for DuPont and learned that, in the words of Amelia Earhart, "the most effective way to do it, is to do it." Her engineering experience included construction engineering, project management, technical sales and marketing, manufacturing and quality control.
Jennifer received her B.S. degree in mechanical engineering, with high honors, from Michigan State University and earned her J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin Law School, where she was a Managing Editor, Symposium Editor, and Malt & Barley Editor of the Wisconsin Law Review, and co-Editor-in-Chief of the Wisconsin Women’s Law Journal. Jennifer is admitted to practice law in Wisconsin and Nebraska, and is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
