Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Carla attended college at Duke University, where she majored in Cultural Anthropology. After graduating college, Carla went on to teach second grade at Venetian Hills Elementary School in Atlanta, GA as part of Teach For America. Following two years of teaching second grade, Carla went to law school at Washington University in St. Louis. For her 1L summer, Carla worked for the Legal Aid Board of South Africa in Durban, South Africa. Upon graduation from law school, Carla went on to clerk for the Honorable Gerald Bruce Lee in the Eastern District of Virginia before coming to her current firm, Vinson & Elkins LLP, in Washington, D.C.
