I, James Kerr II, personally commit to the following:

Personal Commitments

  • I will be a vocal supporter of diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I). I will use my position and influence to advocate for DE&I in my organization, including advocating for systematic changes within my organization.
  • I will meet with diverse members of my team to specifically discuss and understand their backgrounds and experiences in order to understand how to better develop diverse and inclusive leaders within my organization.
  • I will commit to ensuring DE&I at the senior levels of my organization through development, promotion and hiring.
  • I will support diverse law students by providing opportunities for summer internships, mentoring, and serving as a reference and resource to diverse students.
  • I will co-host a LCLD Leadership Lunch with a LCLD member firm and continue to expand my organization’s involvement with LCLD.
  • I will facilitate opportunities for LCLD summer associates to network with leaders within my organization.
  • I will make myself available to attend or participate as a speaker at events, advancing DE&I and donating my time to support diverse lawyers and law students as a mentor, sponsor, and champion.

Organizational Commitments

  • I will encourage outside law firms working for my organization to utilize diverse attorney teams and support advancement for those diverse attorneys at those firms. I will provide recognition, support, and credit to firms utilizing diverse talent.
  • I will support and develop working relationships with minority and women-owned law firms.
  • I will commit resources to talent development training and learning experiences for diverse attorneys within the organization.
  • I will regularly discuss my organization’s commitment to DE&I with the legal leadership team and discuss ways to implement organizational change, especially at the senior leadership level.
  • I will encourage mentorship and sponsorship of diverse attorneys and staff within my organization.
  • I will ensure that DE&I are meaningful components of succession planning and advancement within my organization.
