I, Bimal Patel, personally commit to the following:

Personal Commitment

  • Leading a culture where everyone feels valued, heard, and treated fairly regardless of background or beliefs;
  • Using my voice externally, both individually and in partnership with other CLOs/GCs, law firm partners and thought leaders in the space—to help remove institutional barriers that could prevent people of color (POC), women, and people with disabilities from achieving equitable opportunities, recognition and compensation;
  • Actively participating in LCLD leadership meetings; and
  • Mentoring and advocating for at least two diverse lawyers at PayPal.

Organizational Commitment

  • Ensuring that Diversity, Inclusion, Equity & Belonging (DIE&B) is an integral part of the PayPal Legal’s recruiting, including through implementation of the Mansfield 2.0 Rule for all new hires.
  • Ensuring that DIE&B is an integral part of all development, promotion, advancement and succession planning conversations.
  • Continuing to foster the growth and development of the next generation of lawyers through ongoing involvement in and support of LCLD’s programs.
  • Developing our diverse employees, through
    • Sponsoring two (2) LCLD Fellows annually,
    • Sponsoring two (2) LCLD Pathfinders annually; and
    • Actively participating in our enterprise-wide Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Belonging (DIE&B) committee which focuses on advancing and prioritizing DIE&B company-wide through hiring, retention, and career advancement efforts.
  • Partnering with law firms who share our DIE&B vision and are taking concrete steps to drive change. Pushing our partner firms to staff our matters with diverse teams and collaborate with us to cultivate and promote DIE&B within the legal profession at large.

  • Measure diversity rate of candidates, new hires and promotions, including those in leadership roles, as well as diversity rate of outside counsel.
  • Measure our outside counsel’s firm-wide diversity and the diversity of the teams staffed on our matters, as well as who receives origination credit.
