Personal Commitment 

  • I will continue to mentor and sponsor talent in our legal department from underrepresented groups by having regular conversations with them about their work, their work environment and their career growth and development.
  • I will continue to lead and support the Twin Cities Legal D&I Data Project by providing, annually, disaggregated demographic data on our Minnesota-based lawyers for publication, thereby allowing for a more transparent view of our journey as we strive to increase D&I in our department.
  • I will establish goals and metrics for the hiring and advancement of talent in our legal department from underrepresented groups, with an overall goal of increasing our department’s global diversity index (which measures gender, race/ethnicity, nationality, people with differing abilities, U.S. military veterans, and people who identify as LGBTQI+) to 65% by 2025.

Organizational Commitment 

  • The 3M Legal Affairs department will review and launch a more challenging diversity metric for our Preferred Counsel Network firms, as part of our 2022 PCN selection process (effective in 2023).
  • The 3M Legal Affairs department will build on our D&I maturity model survey, conduct a new survey in 2022 and publish the results in our 2022 annual D&I report.
  • The 3M Legal Affairs department will continue to sponsor inclusion and psychological safety programs, to encourage a culture of openness, candor and belonging; promote an environment where everyone contributes, is appreciated and is comfortable speaking up; and provide resources to support mental health and well-being.
