William Silcott is a Senior Associate General Counsel at Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.  In his current role, he assesses global legal and business risks associated with violations of the company’s policies and procedures as well as any potential violations of applicable international, state, and federal laws, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, United Kingdom Bribery Act, and anti-corruption laws of other countries.  Mr. Silcott leads the team that recommends the initiation of and supervises internal investigations.  He collaborates with various stakeholders, including Ethics and Compliance, Audit, and Finance, to develop plans to address issues identified during the course of the investigations. 

Mr. Silcott joined the company in 2013 as Associate General Counsel, in which role he conducted internal investigations focused on the company’s operations in Latin America and the United States. 

Prior to joining Wal-Mart, Mr. Silcott was an associate at Hughes Hubbard and Reed LLP and Dickstein Shapiro LLP.  During his tenure at these firms, he worked on a variety of complex litigation matters, including managing mass tort litigation in various state and federal courts.  He coordinated the national affirmative discovery effort on behalf of a major pharmaceutical company and assisted in developing and implementing efficient methods for addressing over 60,000 claims, saving the client millions of dollars in the process. 

A native of New York, Mr. Silcott is a graduate of Macalester College and earned his law degree from Columbia Law School, where he served as the managing editor of the Columbia Business Law Review.

He is a member of the board of directors for the Hispanic National Bar Foundation and an avid youth football coach.
