Valerie P. Vidal is the President and CEO of Meta House, Inc., a nonprofit in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that focuses on ending the generational cycle of substance use addiction by healing women and strengthening families.
Meta House has been blazing new trails in women’s drug and alcohol addiction treatment since its doors opened in 1963. The agency is noted as one of the first residential treatment facilities in the country designed specifically for women. In 1988, Meta House became one of the first treatment centers to allow women to bring their children to live with them in residential treatment and receive supportive services simultaneously.
Programs offered at Meta House include:
- inpatient residential treatment;
- a tiered outpatient program; and
- Meta Sober Living Community
At all levels of care, Meta House provides an array of services that help participants address trauma and any other issue they face as women and mothers. In addition to drug and alcohol addiction treatment, Meta House provides parenting education and hands-on coaching; prevention and intervention services for the children of the mothers it serves. Meta House also offers services to address income, employability, basic life management skills, mental and physical health and trauma resolution. This holistic approach ensures that as mom gets well, her entire family has the tools to successfully adapt to a life in recovery.
As President and CEO, Valerie supports all levels of the organization and oversees all business and strategic decisions. She works closely with the organization's dynamic Board of Directors.
Prior to joining Meta House, Valerie was a partner at Quarles & Brady LLP where she practiced in the Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Group. She represented corporate clients in a variety of contractual and business disputes involving breach of contract, misrepresentation, and other tort-based claims. Valerie also defends financial institutions against claims based upon the Truth in Lending Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and the Home Ownership and Equity Protection Act as well as other lender liability and consumer fraud claims.
During her time with Quarles, Valerie successfully defended professional service providers in high-profile multi-million dollar lawsuits involving malpractice and negligence claims. She has significant electronic discovery experience and has advised clients on e-discovery efficiencies.
Valerie has been recognized for her pro bono legal work as well as her prior community service.
