Omar J. Alaniz is a Partner in the Financial Restructuring Group of Baker Botts. He is based in Texas but appears in bankruptcy courts throughout the nation.
Omar is the Former Chair of the Texas State Bar's Bankruptcy Section. He represents debtors and creditors in chapter 11 cases and has substantial experience in bankruptcy-related litigation and appeals, including prevailing in oral argument before the Texas Supreme Court. Omar has received numerous local and national awards and other recognitions, such as in the 2015-17 editions of Chambers USA. In 2012, he received the “Sandra Day O’Connor Award for Professional Service” in the U.S. Supreme Court. In 2013, the National LGBT Bar Association recognized him as a “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40.” In 2011, the American Bar Association named Omar the "National Outstanding Young Lawyer."
In his spare time, Omar is training to be a competitive Crossfit athlete.
