Myra L. McKenzie-Harris is an Associate General Counsel in the Employment Division of the Walmart Legal Department in Bentonville, Arkansas. At Walmart, she offers daily counsel on employment, human resources and organizational efficiency matters to human resources professionals supporting Sam’s Club facilities nationwide, and she has responsibility for oversight and management of all Sam's Club single plaintiff employment litigation. She regularly trains managers on various issues including, but not limited to, developments in federal employment law and EEO compliance, sexual harassment prevention, and internal leave policies. Prior to joining Walmart in 2007, Ms. McKenzie-Harris was an attorney with a large, full service law firm in Ohio where she represented universities, municipalities, and corporations in state and federal employment law administrative, alternative dispute resolution and litigation matters.
Ms. McKenzie-Harris holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Spelman College where she graduated with Latin honors and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School where she was awarded the David T. Link Award for Excellence in Social Justice upon graduation and the Alvin J. McKenna Alumnus of the Year Award in 2008. She is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) and is currently Management Chair of the Section of Labor and Employment Law Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee and represents the Young Lawyers Division in the ABA House of Delegates. She is also a former ABA Section of Labor and Employment Development Fellow.
An avid writer, Ms. McKenzie-Harris has written numerous general and practice-specific articles for local, state and national legal organizations and/or publications and has a forthcoming piece on ethical issues associated with litigation slated for publication in the ABA Journal of Labor and Employment Law in Summer 2016. An avid speaker, Ms. McKenzie-Harris has spoken at many local, state and national legal conferences on a variety of topics, including, but not limited to, state and federal EEO law compliance, legal ethics, the attorney/client relationship, diversity within the legal profession, in-house counsel career development, and effective organization governance.
In her community, she serves on the Board of Directors for the newly established Urban League of the State of Arkansas and serves on an international standing committee for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is married to Dr. Christopher Harris, they enjoy traveling, and they have an 11 year old terrier mix named Nala.
