Julie G. Yap Profile Image

Julie Yap is a partner in Seyfarth Shaw’s Labor & Employment department based in the Sacramento office. Her practice focuses on employment litigation and includes the defense of class and multi-plaintiff actions arising out of alleged violations of federal and state statutes prohibiting discrimination and harassment in employment, as well as the defense of class and collective actions arising out of alleged violations of federal and state wage and hour laws.  Ms. Yap also has experience litigating against the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), both at the early charge stage and in large-scale pattern-and-practice litigation. In addition, Ms. Yap litigates discrimination and harassment cases brought as single plaintiff claims under federal and state statutory laws.  Additionally, her counseling practice affords her with the opportunity to regularly provide employment trainings for her clients, with an emphasis on California wage and hour trainings.

Prior to joining Seyfarth, Ms. Yap was a Supreme Court Fellow in the Court’s Administrative Office of the United States Courts where she researched and drafted memoranda on proposed amendments to Federal Rules, as well as prepared reports on emerging issues that impacted and compelled review of possible rule changes in federal class actions.

Additionally, Ms. Yap was a career judicial clerk for the Honorable Frank C. Damrell, Jr., of the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of California, where she handled all aspects of civil litigation, including advising on case management, preparing draft memoranda and orders and bench memoranda in civil cases, and managing issues in jury trials, including evidentiary issues and jury instruction.  She also provided research and assistance to Judge Damrell with his work as a member of the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation. Ms. Yap was also an adjunct professor at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law where she lectured on legal research, writing, complex civil litigation, and guest lectured on civil procedure.

Julie enjoys playing with her beagle, Jeannie.  She also loves Harry Potter novel, all things Disney, and generally feeding her inner kid.
