William Dougherty joined Simpson Thatcher in 1986 and has practiced in its offices in London, Tokyo, and New York. In addition to chairing the firm, William is on the board of directors of the Legal Aid Society and The Partnership for New York City.
Simpson Thatcher provides mentoring, affinity groups, and a women’s initiative for its minority lawyers. The firm is also engaged in pro bono activities in diverse communities, such as representing civil rights groups in the opposition of New York’s ban on same-sex marriage. Simpson Thatcher also has a pipeline program called the Urban Education Initiative, which engages with more than 800 students at New York and Los Angeles high schools.
