Managing Partner, Irell & Manella LLP

Ellisen Turner became Managing Partner of Irell & Manella in 2017. Before joining Irell, he clerked for the Honorable Robert E. Payne of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and worked in the private industry as a software engineer for Honeywell International, Hewlett-Packard, and IBM.

A leader in diversity, Ellisen is the former chair of the IP Section of the National Bar Association, for which he created the Diversity In Tech Awards to honor in-house legal departments and lawyers with a commitment to inclusion. On becoming Managing Partner, he added diversity-related questions to partners' annual self-assessments, saying: “They’re going to have to think about it every year, and when they go into the start of the year, say ‘I’m going to be asked this question. What can I do next year to put something in that box?’” In 2018, Irell & Manella was ranked fourth out of 220 large firms for its percentage of minority partners.
