Andrew Smulian joined Akerman in 1995 and became CEO in 2008. Under his leadership, the firm launched the legal industry’s first R&D co-venture with clients and expanded Akerman’s commitment to social impact with a first-of-its-kind partnership with the National Court Appointed Special Advocates Association to provide foster children with a voice. In 2017, Andrew was named a Top 10 Legal Innovator for North America. He also serves on the Advisory Board of Best Lawyers and the Board of Directors of the United Way of Miami-Dade County. 

Akerman LLP has ranked in the top 50 for diversity and No. 6 for Hispanic lawyers. Diversity efforts include a diversity committee, sensitivity training, same-sex domestic partner benefits, and the first minority legal pipeline program in Florida.
