Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary, Freddie Mac

Ricardo Anzaldua joined Freddie Mac in 2018 and became General Counsel in 2019. He was previously General Counsel of MetLife, Inc., where he developed a groundbreaking sponsorship program which required senior leaders to sponsor diverse attorneys and tied their compensation to the performance of their protégés. Ricardo also asked its outside counsel to create their own sponsorship programs. 

"We created this talent stewardship initiative with the objective of achieving leadership diversity in the ranks of MetLife Legal Affairs, but we also wanted to create a program that would lead efforts to enhance diversity in the legal profession at large," Ricardo told attendees of the 2017 LCLD Annual Membership Meeting

Diversity efforts within Freddie Mac's legal team include a database of diverse outside counsel, partnership with the National Association of Minority- and Women-Owned Law Firms, and summer internships for law students. Companywide, Freddie Mac recently received awards for its Autism Internship Program and its LGBT & Housing Insights report. Freddie Mac also participated in the 2018 Diversity Best Practices Inclusion Index, providing data on its D&I practices, organizational culture, and demographic transparency.
