An engineer-turned-attorney, Ivan Fong appreciates being able to bring a diverse background to a company like 3M: “To lead change, one must be prepared for the unexpected," Ivan says. "I believe the variety of experiences I have had—from starting my career as a chemical engineer to being a partner in a large law firm to public service to being an in-house corporate attorney—has prepared me well for my current role at 3M."
Ivan came to 3M in 2012, after serving as General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. In 2014 he led 3M to join LCLD, and immediately nominated their first two Fellows. By the end of the year, Ivan had conceived and hosted the first ever Fellows Regional Roundtable.
From its Minnesota headquarters to locations all over the world, 3M represents the spirit of professional diversity through the use of resource networks that provide leadership, networking, and community outreach opportunities. 3M also focuses on diversity in its suppliers, with an emphasis on supporting minority-owned and women-owned businesses. 3M was named an LCLD Top Performer in 2021.
