Kyle DeThomas is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Latham & Watkins where he is a member of the Finance Department and the Real Estate Practice Group. His practice focuses on commercial real estate lending, development, management and operations, with experience in mezzanine financing, Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) matters, engineering, construction, and procurement agreements, and complex acquisitions and dispositions (e.g., agricultural land, condominium development, entitlement issues). Kyle was chosen as one of the 2012 Latham & Watkins Diversity Scholars and is the Los Angeles office leader of the Black Lawyers (affinity) Group.
Kyle received his JD from Stanford University in addition to an MS from its School of Engineering in Sustainable Design and Construction. While in law school, he served as President of the Real Estate Land Use Association and was a founding member of the Stanford Law Veterans Organization. Currently, he is an active member of Stanford Professionals in Real Estate (SPIRE).
Prior to law school, Kyle served as a Captain and civil engineer in the United States Air Force during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan following his graduation from the United States Air Force Academy.
Interests: international travel, crowd-funded real estate, dog psychology, Edomae-sushi, beach volleyball, urban greenspace
Epiphanies: sleep isn't everything, it's the ONLY thing (i.e., proud father to a 6-month energizer bunny/daughter).
