Rachelle is a registered patent attorney with particular experience in complex commercial litigation and high-stakes intellectual property disputes. Rachelle has litigated patents in the areas of biotechnology, semiconductor technology, telecommunications, smartphones, digital cameras, e-commerce, Internet, GPS, and wireless technology. She has extensive experience in all aspects of patent litigation in both district court and the U.S. International Trade Commission. In addition to litigation, Rachelle conducts acquisition due diligence, investigates product clearances, drafts commercial agreements, conducts trademark clearances, and provides IP-related counseling to clients in a variety of technology sectors.
Before joining McGuireWoods LLP in 2012, Rachelle practiced for years in the general and patent litigation departments of another Am Law 100 firm in the District of Columbia. Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Rachelle worked four years as a registered patent agent at a national law firm, where she focused on domestic and foreign prosecution of patents in the fields of computer hardware, mechanical devices, chemistry, bioinformatics, semiconductors, and medical devices. Prior to practicing law, Rachelle conducted research in the areas of synthetic organic chemistry, phospholipid chemistry, and lithography. She has published her work in peer-reviewed journals. In 2001, Rachelle became the first African American woman at Stanford University to receive a Ph.D. in chemistry.
Before private practice, Rachelle served as an extern and law clerk to the Honorable Rudi M. Brewster, Senior District Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, and as a law clerk to the Honorable Paul R. Michel, Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
