My practice focuses on client counseling and the preparation and prosecution of trademark and patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). I also have experience in complex patent and trademark licensing negotiations and opinion drafting. Recently, my practice has evolved into Post Grant Litigation before the US Patent and Trademark Office.
My technical experience with intellectual property matters relates to RF communication, RF signal detection and processing, semiconductor device structures, nano-scale electrical components, optical systems, optical disc structures, image processing devices and systems, and computer-related technologies, including operating system and application software; network systems; distributed computing environments; network-node discovery and management; supply chain processing and management; and high-, medium- and low-voltage power systems, including power distribution and transformer and electric motor/generator technologies.
I have worked in Intellectual Property in some capacity for 17 years. I graduated from Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation, I worked in industry for a leading Department of Defense Contractor, in which he designed and tested digital circuits.
Prior to joining Buchanan, I worked for the USPTO where he examined patent applications in the image processing art unit, which include technologies such as biometrics, image/object recognition and image compressors, among others.
I am active in the community through volunteer as a mentor in the public school system and as a youth soccer and basketball coach. Professionally, I have volunteered as a mediator and alternative dispute resolution specialist for the District Court of Maryland. From 2008-2011, he served as co-chair of the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Patent Litigation Committee Special Sub-Committee on Opinions of Counsel Post-Seagate.
Currently, I am an active member of the Intellectual Property Owner U.S. Post-Grant Patent Office Practice Committee, the ABA PTO Litigation Committee, and the Federal Circuit Bar Association.
I have always been and logical thinker and enjoy problem solving. I also enjoy the exchanging ideas and experiences with others. I get the greatest satisfaction in working with clients to expand and broaden the reach, use, and application of their IP.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience with LCLD and have found it to be one of the best organizations and platforms for my personal and professional growth.
