Monica is the Senior Regional Counsel for IBM Global Markets, one of IBM’s largest sales units in the world covering twenty-five states. She manages a team of seven attorneys and additional support staff while overseeing all sales contracting in the region. She is the lead on negotiations for multi-million dollar transactions.
Previously at IBM she was the brand attorney for IBM’s Watson Internet of Things (IoT) business unit where she negotiated transactions related to joint development, licensing, alliances, commercial engagements, joint marketing, reseller and channels for software, SaaS and services. She also counseled clients on day to day brand matters such as product development, marketing, intellectual property rights, security and privacy matters. In addition to her IoT responsibilities, she managed alliance deals for IBM’s Watson Health and Analytics business units.
She was also the brand attorney for IBM’s Smarter Cities and Rational software products; co-chair of the Cloud Computing Task Force; and commercial counsel for IBM’s Distribution and state and local government sectors where she negotiated commercial transactions for software, hardware and services.
Prior to joining IBM, Monica was a litigator at Heller Ehrman LLP practicing in the area of complex commercial disputes, securities, white collar, corporate governance, and antitrust. She also has handled pro bono family law matters for the Justice & Diversity Center of The Bar Association of San Francisco (formerly Volunteer Legal Services Program) and San Francisco’s Cooperative Restraining Order Clinic.
After graduating from Northwestern University but prior to attending law school at The University of Chicago Law School, she was an Urban Fellow in the New York City Mayor’s Office of Operation and an assistant to the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Housing, Preservation and Development.
Her interests and volunteer work include completing three Ironman 70.3 triathlons and multiple 100 mile road bike rides; BAWAR rape crisis hospital counselor; reading and scuba diving.
