The best training I received to be a litigator is growing up in a large Italian family and debating across the dinner table. I am most proud of being the first in my family to attend college, let alone law school, and funding my education. I received my B.A., magna cum laude, from Mount Holyoke College and graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in 2005. I previously served as legislative intern to Massachusetts’ first woman majority leader, Senator Linda J. Melconian, and as a judicial intern to the nation’s first African American Chief United States Magistrate Judge and the country’s first African American woman magistrate, Judge Joyce London Alexander. I also worked for PriceWaterhouse Coopers’ Global Risk Management unit in Boston before heading to law school.
I am currently a Principal at Robins Kaplan LLP in Boston, where I counsel clients in cases involving a wide variety of insurance lines, including commercial property and homeowner’s policies, and represent them in litigation and trial. I have substantial experience defending litigation over collapse, design defect, earth movement, environmental exposure, and catastrophe claims such as tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, fires, and windstorms. I also help my clients quickly and efficiently resolve measurement disputes in appraisal and reference.
My insurance practice also includes the resolution and litigation of liability coverage issues under commercial, and other standard form and manuscript policies. I advise insurers in complex coverage disputes involving advertising injury coverage, additional and other insured questions, the application of misrepresentation defenses, and exclusions under claims made and occurrence based policies. I collaborate with my clients to avoid the escalation of conflict and to achieve reasonable and cost-effective determinations, counseling my clients on effective ways to minimize exposure to extra-contractual liability claims.
I have served as the national Program Chair for the Property Insurance Law Committee of the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section, and remain a Vice-Chair of the organization. I am a member of Massachusetts’ Equal Justice Coalition, which is committed to securing civil legal aid in the state, and the Massachusetts Womens’ Bar Foundation, where I represent abused women. I was recently recognized by the Massachusetts Women’s Bar Association as part of the “Women’s Leadership Initiative,” was awarded “Excellence in the Law” recognition by Massachusetts Lawyer’s Weekly, and has been recognized as a Massachusetts “Super Lawyer” for the past five years.
