Lisa M. Kathumbi is a Partner with the law firm of Bricker & Eckler LLP in the Labor & Employment/Healthcare group. An experienced litigator, Lisa has represented employers ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies across jurisdictions in a broad range of labor and employment matters arising under state and federal law. In addition to her litigation practice, she has experience training and advising employers regarding day-to-day employment issues, including leave and accommodation, wage and hour, and performance management, and experience preparing employee handbooks and policies.
Formerly, Lisa was senior legal counsel to the Ohio Department of Health where she managed litigation and served as lead counsel to the agency regarding both labor and employment and health regulatory matters affecting nursing homes, hospitals, and other health care facilities and health care services. She also served as adjunct faculty at Columbus State Community College, teaching alternative dispute resolution.
An active member of the Columbus community, Lisa has served on the editorial board for Better Lawyers, a publication of the Columbus Bar Association, as a founding board member of Ruling Our Experiences (ROX), and on the boards of the John Mercer Langston Bar Association, City Year Columbus, and the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus. Lisa currently serves as President-Elect of the Ohio Women’s Bar Association (OWBA). In May 2017, Lisa will become the first African-American President of the OWBA.
In 2007, Lisa received the Urban League’s National Rising Star Award. In 2014, she received the Ohio Women’s Bar Association President’s Choice Award and in 2014 and 2015 Lisa was recognized as an Ohio Super Lawyers Rising Star. Recently, the Ohio chapter of Women for Economic Leadership Development (WELD) selected Lisa as a 2017 Women WELDing the Way calendar honoree.
Lisa received her undergraduate degree and law degree from the University of Cincinnati. She received a Masters degree in International Relations from the University of Chicago.
