Kamla Alexander is Senior Marketing Counsel with The Coca-Cola Company. As Senior Marketing Counsel, Kamla provides legal support to select sparkling brands, multicultural and sports and entertainment client groups for both the North America and global brand and digital marketing teams. As part of her responsibilities, Kamla supports cross-functional client teams by directing legal review of marketing pillar programs, providing guidance on Social Media marketing, and negotiating celebrity talent agreements.
Prior to her current role, Kamla supported clients in the Company’s North America bottling operations subsidiary Coca-Cola Refreshments (“CCR”). Her responsibilities included directing all commercial legal matters for CCR’s East Region Sales team, managing Dr Pepper firewall compliance under the Company’s consent order with the Federal Trade Commission, advising on matters for CCR’s Commercial Leadership team, directing legal review of customer marketing programs, negotiating licensing and distribution agreements with cross-franchise brand owners (e.g., Dr Pepper and Monster), serving as the Local Ethics Officer for her assigned client groups and providing antitrust and compliance training.
Kamla’s experience at the Company also includes negotiating multi-million dollar supply chain and procurement agreements, supporting mergers and acquisitions due diligence, as well as managing litigation as a subject matter expert.
Kamla is extremely passionate about increasing diversity in the legal profession and, from May 2013 through December 2016, served as chair of the Company’s Legal Division Diversity Council. In addition to Kamla’s work with the Company, Kamla also serves on the National Bar Association Commercial Law Section’s Executive Committee and is a Conference Co-Chair for the 30th annual Corporate Counsel Conference in February 2017. Kamla is also a member of Duke University School of Law’s Law Alumni Association Board of Directors. The Board, its governing body, consists of 35-40 members representing diverse geographic concentrations, including international alumni, a wide variety of practice areas and business interests, and different decades of graduation.
Kamla began her practice in complex and intellectual property litigation at the law firm of Troutman Sanders LLP in Atlanta until she joined The Coca-Cola Company in 2006. Kamla received her Bachelor of Arts in English from Emory University and her Juris Doctor from Duke University School of Law. Kamla enjoys traveling (especially to visit her grandparents in Jamaica), and is married to her law school sweetheart, with whom she has a nine year old daughter.
