David is an attorney at Lane Powell PC in the Pacific Northwest, where his complex civil litigation defense practice focuses on aviation and insurance law. He regularly defends aviation clients in wrongful death and negligence cases, and enjoys the opportunity to learn the ins-and-outs of airplanes, engines, and the aviation marketplace from pilots, engineers, and mechanics. He also analyzes specialized insurance coverage issues and advises insurers in lawsuits involving coverage disputes, bad faith, and contribution, as well as ERISA and non-ERISA life, health, and disability cases.
Outside of private practice, David sits on the executive committee for the QLaw Association of Washington, which is the statewide LGBTQ bar association, and works to foster a supportive community for LGBTQ attorneys. He previously served as a Commissioner on the City of Seattle LGBT Commission. In that position, he collaborated with diverse individuals on a wide range of issues, such as transgender healthcare benefits and bathroom access, police training and hate crimes, efforts to develop an LGBTQ community center, and the City’s Race and Social Justice Initiative. David was selected as a fellow in the Washington Leadership Institute, and worked with diverse attorneys to develop a mentorship guide to help teach mentorship skills.
David graduated from the University of Washington School of Law with high honors in 2007, and earned his bachelor’s in English from Reed College. Before entering private practice, David served as a law clerk for the Honorable James L. Robart of the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington – now best known for blocking President Trump’s executive order on immigration in the State of Washington v. Trump lawsuit. He also clerked for the Honorable Ernest M. Robles of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California.
A Seattle native, David lives in the Wallingford neighborhood with his husband, Jesse, a psychiatrist at the Veterans Administration, and their dog, Alvin, a rascally German Shepard mix. In their free time, the couple tackles home improvement projects, and David is an aspiring gardener. With a little luck, they hope to become adoptive parents in the coming years.
