Angela Grant is the Head of Compliance & Legal at Hippo Insurance, a start-up in Mountain View, CA. Hippo is a new kind of insurance company that uses modern technology to provide a simpler process, smarter coverage, and a completely new approach to how we care for our homes. Hippo offers intuitive and proactive home insurance by taking a smarter, tech-driven approach. Hippo believes that home insurance should be designed to actively serve the needs of our customers, who can live carefree when they know they've been taken care of.
Prior to joining Hippo, Angela was Director of Ethics & Compliance at Esurance, an Allstate company. She chaired the Corporate Ethics & Compliance Committee and met quarterly with the Board of Directors to discuss compliance matters, new laws, privacy incidents, remediation plans and strategic initiatives. Angela identified systemic breaks and opportunities to assist business units with documenting compliance risks and controls. She exceled at partnering with her business colleagues in developing proactive initiatives that minimize business risk, collaborating with trade associations & regulators, recommending strategies and serving as an expert on regulatory matters.
Angela was Director of Compliance at Kemper Specialty prior to working for Esurance. She was promoted to manage compliance for the entire company, bringing process and procedural discipline to address regulatory issues in alignment with the company’s business growth plans and in reaction to quick changes in state and federal law. Angela leveraged her legal expertise and operational background to introduce best practices across project management, claims, underwriting, auditing, risk mitigation, and remediation.
Angela is a member of the State Bar of Texas, State Bar of California (Registered In-House Counsel), American Bar Association, Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics, Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals (AICP), and National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL).
