John Devaney began his career as a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and has held leadership roles at Perkins Coie since 2005. He is also the co-founder of the Washington Lawyers' Foundation for Children's Hospital. In 2012, John successfully represented a group of minority voters in case involving discriminatory voting districts

Perkins Coie’s diversity efforts include a 1L Fellowship program, affinity groups, and an annual diversity retreat. The firm has received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index since 2009 and was one of the top law firms on Fortune 100’s Best Companies to Work For list in 2015.
